Provision of Life Saving Maternal and Reproductive Health Protection Support Services for Women and Girls in KP

Project Brief

To strengthen the capacity of the public sector and civil society partners and to advance gender equality and women protection in development and humanitarian settings, SRSP in collaboration with UNFPA implemented the “Mental health & Psychosocial Support to Women”.

Objective

The project aims to carry out awareness-raising and social mobilization with men and women in communities on prevention and response to women protection issues. Moreover, it establishes Women and Girls Friendly Spaces (WGFS) in BHUs, and community settings and provides Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) services to women and adolescent girls. Referral pathways at the district level for GBV case management are also to be established under the project. The project is focused on targeting Afghan refugees, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), host communities, and flood affected population.

Progress Update of Activities

  • 47 WGFS were established in the target areas providing women and girls with access to essential healthcare services.
  • 171,561 individuals have been positively impacted under the project by gaining access to the WGFSs.
  • More than 58,863 women and adolescent girls received psychosocial support to help them cope with the challenges in humanitarian/emergency settings.
  • Nearly 50,059 women and girls with disabilities were assisted with services including MHPSS, case management, awareness raising, referrals, and provision of dignity kits in emergencies.
  • 12 district level referral pathways were developed in target districts which has enhanced the effectiveness of the project’s response to GBV cases.
  • 200 women and adolescent girls trained in different income generating trades i.e. Cooking and Baking, Food Processing, Beautician, Soap and Detergent, Artificial Garland and Modern Handicraft and Embroidery.
  • Over 404,748 individuals including men, women, boys, and girls attended awareness raising sessions. These sessions on GBV, Sexual and Reproductive Health, and Family Planning.
  • 50 Community-Based Protection Groups (CBPGs) were formed to promote gender equality and women protection.
