Project Brief

In partnership with British Council, the project, Scholarships for Young Women and Girls; was implemented in Tor Ghar and Battagram districts with the objective to provide secondary level female students who fall into the category of being un-privileged, disabled and/or from minority ethnic groups, with scholarship that will help the students continue their schooling. Under the project, scholarships provided to 150 girl students of secondary school age (13-16 years). It includes 75 students in Battagram and 75 in Tor Ghar.

For the identification of the students, a participatory and consultative strategy was developed and adapted. Meetings were also held with the administration of the selected schools and members of the Parents-Teacher Councils (PTCs). During these meetings, a scholarship implementation committee was established, comprising head teachers and PTC/local community members. In collaboration with the District Education Office, district administration, and school authorities, SRSP finalized the date for the scholarship award ceremony. The event was held at the office of the Deputy Commissioner, where scholarships were distributed to 150 female students. These scholarships included essential educational items such as notebooks, school uniforms, shoes, dignity kits, and other related materials.

Throughout the implementation of the program, SRSP maintained strong coordination with the Elementary and Secondary Education Department, district administration, school administrations, PTCs, and other key stakeholders. Feedback from all involved parties was actively gathered and integrated into the process where applicable.
