Project Brief
The North Waziristan Local Area Development Project, funded by Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL) under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programme, is focused on uplifting the socio-economic conditions of the people of North Waziristan.
Objective
The project is aimed to create sustainable livelihoods, enhance agriculture, improve education, deliver health services, and promote social cohesion among the deprived communities of the district.
The new phase of the partnership is being implemented under SRSP’s social mobilization and community driven approach by engaging our existing Community Organizations in North Waziristan.
Progress Update of Activities
275 individuals are being trained in various Livelihoods skills both of which were identified by Community Organizations (COs) and the Community Resource Persons.
8 schools rehabilitated, including 4 boys and 4 girls. The civil work includes, improvement of existing WASH facilities, electrification, ground development and educational painting etc.
700 students are given free lunch boxes each day under the School Meal Programme (SMP). The lunch boxes are prepared by 165 widows, each widow is paid PKR 100 per lunch box.
2 Health Care Facilities were rehabilitated, Tehsil Headquarter Hospital (THQ) Shewa and Rural Health Center (RHC) Spenwam. The scope of work includes civil work, provision of medical equipment, and overall solarization.
2 Mobile Health Units (MHUs) were made available to facilitate the provision of free OPD services and medicines in the far flung areas.
160 farmers were trained on vertical farming and given kits including pesticides, DAP, seeds etc. 30 farmers were trained on Bitter Gourd, 30 farmers were trained on tomato and 20 farmers trained on cucumber farming.
160 farmers were trained on Orchards and given kits that include wheel barrow, spray pump, pesticides, DAP and fruit plants.
40 farmers trained on olive grafting and management. They were also provided 5,500 olive plants.
