Project Brief

The project Expansion of Old Zanana Hospital Parachinar addresses a critical need for improved healthcare services in Kurram district, particularly in the context of the Old Zanana Hospital (OZH).

Objective

Established in 1901, the hospital has been a vital healthcare facility, serving both the local population and Afghan patients from across the border, constituting approximately 40% of the total patients. However, the hospital has suffered from prolonged neglect, resulting in outdated infrastructure and inadequate space to meet the demands of the growing population.

The specific objective of this project is” Improved access to health care for the marginalized and isolated communities living along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Kurram District of Pakistan”.

  • The project completion would benefit almost 8,000 persons (6,000 direct and 2,000 indirect)

The expected results of this project include:

  • Construction of improved and upgraded health facilities
  • Capacity of health care staff enhanced for O&M of the OZH.

Under the project, the infrastructure work comprises of expansion work. The capacity building component includes training of staff working in the Old Zanana Hospital.

Progress Update of Activities

  • With regular monitoring by the project staff, the project is expected to be completed by December 2024.
