The Merged District North Waziristan is the northern part of Waziristan, a mountainous region of northwest Pakistan, bordering Afghanistan and covering 4,707 square kilometres. In the Merged District North Waziristan, SRSP has established a meaningful presence across 16 of the district’s 22 union councils, implementing a community-driven approach to foster sustainable development in this historically underserved region. The organization has successfully mobilized local populations by forming 406 Community Organizations, comprising 311 male and 95 female organizations, collectively representing 8,145 households. This institutional framework has been complemented by the establishment of 4 male Village Organizations, creating structured platforms for participatory decision-making at the grassroots level.
The capacity development component has achieved significant reach, with training programs benefiting 9,545 local residents. These initiatives include leadership training for 4,252 community members (2,410 men and 1,842 women) alongside vocational skills development for 5,293 individuals (3,534 men and 1,759 women). The training outcomes demonstrate progressive strides in gender inclusion, with women constituting 43% of leadership program participants and 33% of skills training beneficiaries – particularly noteworthy achievements in this traditionally conservative tribal context. Infrastructure development efforts have yielded substantial results, with 543 community projects completed at a total cost of PKR 1.19 billion. The portfolio encompasses diverse interventions, including 178 drinking water systems, 10 connectivity projects, 8 irrigation schemes, and 30 sanitation facilities, alongside 129 other community development initiatives. These comprehensive improvements have positively impacted living conditions for 108,657 households, addressing fundamental needs in water security, public health, and rural mobility.
