
In Mardan district, the Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP) continues to deliver sustainable, community-led development interventions, fostering inclusive growth and resilience across rural and urban landscapes. Currently, SRSP operates in 30 out of 75 Union Councils (UCs), demonstrating a strategic and impactful presence.
To strengthen participatory governance and foster grassroots leadership, SRSP has facilitated the formation of 1,844 Community Organizations (COs) comprising 1,206 male and 638 female organization, mobilizing 43,597 households. These platforms empower local communities to prioritize needs, plan development initiatives, and monitor outcomes. Additionally, 230 Village Organizations (VOs) and 10 Local Support Organizations (LSOs) have been established.
Capacity-building remains a cornerstone of SRSP’s approach. In Mardan, 16,286 individuals have received managerial and leadership training (including 10,074 men and 6,212 women), enhancing community governance and self-reliance. Simultaneously, 5,667 community members (2,881 men and 2,786 women) have benefited from vocational training, equipping them with income-generating skills and enabling economic participation. In total, 21,953 people have been trained under SRSP’s human development programs.
SRSP’s infrastructure initiatives continue to improve living standards and contribute to climate-resilient development. A total of 472 community physical infrastructure (CPI) projects have been implemented, including 145 drinking water supply schemes, 28 irrigation projects, 3 communication pathways, and 296 sanitation facilities, among others. These projects, delivered at a cumulative cost of PKR 195.5 million, have directly benefited over 29,238 households, providing essential services and enhancing local capacities to manage natural resources.
To catalyze economic empowerment, SRSP has deployed microfinance instruments tailored to marginalized communities. In Mardan, Community Investment Funds (CIF) totaling PKR 159.26 million have been disbursed to 15,063 beneficiaries, supporting entrepreneurship, livelihood diversification, and financial inclusion.
