Philosophy

Inspired by the thoughts and example set by Dr Akhtar Hamid Khan, a group of eminent social workers led by Shoaib Sultan Khan, Muhammad Azam khan, Mrs. Munawar Humayun Khan, government officials, members of civil society along with academia and training institutions, decided to establish an entity to be named the Sarhad Rural Support Programme (SRSP). It has adopted pragmatic, organic, and sociological approach of Dr Akhtar Hamid Khan for programme development and implementation.

The idea behind SRSP’s formation is the belief that communities have the inherent capacity for self-help. A catalyst organization, like itself, is required to provide technical and financial assistance to enable the communities to become agents of change. The catalyst organization has to have an iterative, adaptive, flexible, and responsive approach which is translated into reality by using tools of social mobilization and Community Institutions building.

Its long run vision is to create institutions of people which are downwardly accountable to their members and have the capacity to undertake development on their own initiative. All its projects and programmes are designed to have maximum community input in design, implementation and monitoring and evaluation.
